The Challenge

To implement an M2M fleet tracking system, combining cellular and satellite connectivity to offer maximum network coverage at a cost effective rate is challenging. The system must incorporate compliance of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and driver fatigue regulations, whilst facilitating increased productivity, enhanced business automation and cost-savings. Additionally the tracking device must be deployable globally and ensure there is constant network connectivity for the reliability of data transmission and reporting.

The Solution

MTData’s advanced vehicle tracking and fleet management solution has been developed to utilise the transmission of data over both the 3G cellular network and Iridium Satellite. The solution includes live tracking, comprehensive reporting, an in-vehicle driver tablet solution, live fatigue management, mass management (IAP monitoring), emergency duress, job dispatch and sign-on glass. Capturing data in real-time and relaying the data over the cellular network enables cost-effective data transmission. The ability for the tracking system’s connection to switch to satellite, in the event that the cellular signal fails for a predefined period of time, ensures constant connectivity and data integrity.

The technology that MTData provides has led to a reliable, comprehensive and integrated transport safety management system.

The Results

MTData’s fleet tracking solution assists with meeting driver OH&S and fatigue compliance requirements, improving driver safety. These include proactive alerts for emergency duress, man down, fatigue breaches (drivers neglecting to take scheduled breaks), harsh driving and speeding. It is deployable globally and is currently used throughout Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and North America. The savings that KORE Wireless provides to MTData and their clients is significant due to automation and pooled data plans across both cellular and satellite, enabling the data cost to be spread across entire fleets.

Background

MTData has developed a telematics solution which combines both cellular and satellite connectivity, improving a range of compliance issues that are common to the fleet tracking industry. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, driver safety and vehicle management. By creating and implementing a reliable, cost-effective and practical solution, MTData’s solutions will help address critical issues of safety and performance that are vitally important to the Australian transport industry.

Solution Overview

The technology used for all software, hardware and communications providers, both satellite and cellular, has led to a reliable, comprehensive and integrated transport safety management system. The technology that MTData provides has led to a reliable, comprehensive and integrated transport safety management system. This assists in meeting legal obligations by improving driver road safety and minimising accidents through an effective fatigue management and vehicle maintenance solution.

Utilising a cost-effective terrestrial network with high performing and quality satellite coverage, MTData can provide “go anywhere” peace of mind to both drivers and operators with their remote tracking solution. This forms a crucial element to the MTData offering as essential data is relayed over satellite, while other information not deemed time critical is logged and stored for later analysis over a more cost-effective cellular signal.

MTData offers an extensive range of solutions, including proactive fatigue management, emergency duress and man down alarms for immediate response (a benefit when drivers are working in remote or unmanned locations) and irregular engine alerts. KORE Wireless, the world’s largest, dedicated provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless data networks, assists in delivering MTData’s cost effective solutions. This is done through the specifically designed pooled SBD plans that enables data usage from multiple users to be aggregated into one billing pool. This means that transport companies with large numbers of vehicles can share the monthly data across the entire fleet, facilitating direct cost savings and enable effective roll-out of the system.
